01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One diner who ordered the premium unaju remembered the eel’s fragrant char, pleasantly firm texture and sauce, which was neither too strong nor too sweet. Another account also praised the eel’s aroma and tender, fluffy texture, along with the clean-tasting sauce. Akagaki offers unaju in regular, premium and special grades, making it possible to enjoy a classic eel meal or choose something a little more indulgent.

Unaju is the centrepiece, while half-portion umaki (rolled omelette with eel) and grilled eel liver are options for adding a few other dishes. Grilled liver is listed by the 1-skewer portion, and umaki is available as a half portion. You can also add a separate bowl of eel-liver soup, listed at 300 yen.

Several diners reported waiting around 30–40 minutes for their unaju after arriving just after opening, so this is better suited to an unhurried meal. Reservations are accepted, and are recommended for dinner; if you are planning your visit around a particular time, it may be worth arranging one in advance. The restaurant is in Hatsudai and accepts cash only.
